SIGHORSE🦓
FAQ
Q: What counts as a project?
A: Anything you're genuinely excited about creating or exploring!
It could be building something, learning a new skill, researching a topic, or crafting something unique.
Q: What form should my updates take?
A: Share your progress in any format you prefer! The more tangible it is to other people, the better.
A git commit, a photo of your on-going work, or a micro blog post.
Q: What makes a good record?
A: A record should capture and share your project in a way that others can access, appreciate, and learn from.
Examples include demo videos, research papers, detailed writeups, interactive demos, or snazzy show-reels.
Q: How many projects am I allowed to have?
A: No more than three — don't be greedy. As many as you want.
Q: Do my project and record have to be distinct?
A: Not necessarily. For example, writing a research paper serves as both the project and the record.
SIGHORSE invites serious submissions
While this website is playful, serious projects presented seriously are welcome at SIGHORSE. We want you to have fun, grow, and present your best work.
What?!
SIGHORSE (the Special Interest Group in Horsing Around) is a 8.7× better journal than all the other journals out there. This summer, work on projects like learning to make killer pizza, writing a GPU driver, or pushing the frontiers of Rubik's cube theory. Then, create a record of your project — a demo video, research paper, or detailed writeup — for inclusion in SIGHORSE🦓 2025.
The six easy steps to SIGHORSE
- Join the Purdue Hackers Discord.
- Create a thread in
#SIGHORSE🦓
with your name as the title. - Make incremental progress on your project and share updates in your personal thread!
- Every week, post an update (demo, commits, photos, etc.) to
#🏁checkpoints
! - Create and share a digitally archivable record for inclusion in SIGHORSE! A record can be anything that showcases your project and can be saved for posterity.
- Incessantly cite your publication in the SIGHORSE 2025 journal, publishing in September!
